A shy Montana attorney whos never argued in court, Maxwell Webster (Ford) finally gets up the nerve to quit his firm and start over in Los Angeles. Moving into a fast neighborhood, Max is shocked to find his phone number once belonged to a bookie, and Maxs wife (Roman) has accepted a bet. So when a gangster (Sheldon Leonard) demands the wager be honored and they both get thrown in the clink, Max has no choice but to try his own case and pray it wont be his last.
