Directed by Eagle Pennell, WHOLE SHOOTIN’ MATCH follows two bumbling schemers, Lloyd (Lou Perryman) and Frank (Sonny Davis), as they warm barstools and make big plans for small businesses and crazy inventions that will help get them out of their rut. Naturally, the hole proves too deep and the bottle too unbeatable, but there’s dignity, warmth, and humor in their refusal to stop dreaming.
Made on a shoestring by a film school dropout, WHOLE SHOOTIN’ MATCH offers the sort of anti-hero narratives and local textures that would soon become standard for American independent filmmaking.
