For centuries, the ancient system of voodoo has both fascinated and terrified the world.

Today, millions of devoted practitioners still put their faith in these spiritual traditions and rituals. In this special programs, The Unexplained follows one such devotee, Yuseff Abdulla, as he embarks on an odyssey to his ancestral homeland and the forbidden world of voodoo. From the swamps of the Deep South to a remote corner of West Africa, Yuseff bears witness to many rites rarely seen by the uninitiated, including snake deification, purification, animal sacrifice, and spirit possession. Members of a South Carolina community and West African practitioners speak frankly about their faith, while Yuseff shares his feelings about his physical and spiritual journey.
