Vigilantes Are Coming

A masked, Robin Hood-like hero and his courageous band of mounted followers stand between a wealthy madman and his plan to make himself supreme dictator of the American West. In 1844 California, then a province of Mexico, megalomaniac General Jason Burr learns that there is gold beneath land owned by wealthy ranchero Senor Loring. On Burr's orders, Loring and his son are killed, and the murderous general begins secretly mining the gold and plotting to become dictator of California under the flag of Imperial Russia. To thwart Burr, Loring's other son Don becomes "The Eagle," an avenger who assembles a group of equally fearless vigilantes. Together they face impossible odds as they battle Burr's army of cutthroats.

The feature version of Republic's 12 chapter serial, The Vigilantes are Coming combines cowboys, Cossacks and an Old West crusader in the tradition of Zorro. The wild yarn introduced "Republic's New Action Star" Robert Livingston in a production important in serial history as the studio's first in the Western genre and also their first to feature a masked hero.
