Historically, Bat Masterson—whose real name was William Bartley Masterson—was the deputy of legendary Wyatt Earp. The documented, as well as imagined exploits of this real-life figure sparked the creation of the television character and the subsequent series.

THE RIFLEMAN - Outlaw’s Inheritance - Mail Order Groom

An account of a widowed homesteader living in North Fork, New Mexico, who is called upon to help the local sheriff when he is unable to bring crooks and outlaws to justice. The Rifleman, Lucas McCain (played by ex-baseball hero Chuck Connors), literally the fastest gun in the West, is allegedly able to squeeze off a shot in less than three-tenths of a second, which in a confrontation is quite an advantage.
