Thursday Club
Ever wonder what the cops thought of the protesters in the 1960s?
The Thursday Club introduces a group of retired Oakland officers who battled antiwar demonstrators and Black Panthers. This documentary re-examines the turbulent social movements of the 1960´s in an unusual narrative that combines history and memoir in a story of reconciliation.
In October 1967, the filmmaker was beaten at an antiwar demonstration in Oakland, California. Thirty years later, he set out to find the police officers who were present at that even - his best clue, a news photograph of himself getting clubbed. The Thursday Club covers the Vietnam War protests that spilled from Berkeley into Oakland, the racial integration of the Oakland Police Department, and the ambivalence of black officers during the department´s war with the Black Panthers.
