Masterful Chilean director Raoul Ruiz´s (TIME REGAINED) noirish black comedy THAT DAY features Elsa Zylberstein as the wealthy Harald´s endearingly mad daughter Livia, who long ago checked out of reality. When Harald runs into some financial trouble, he develops a plan to kill Livia for her inheritance, but Emil Pointpoirot (Bernard Giraudeu, WATER DROPS ON BURNING ROCKS), the serial killer Harald chooses to do the deed, develops a strange connection to the girl. While Emil turns his "talents" on the rest of Livia´s greedy family, she remains oblivious to the rising body count and the activities of her newfound companion.
Ruiz´s gleefully absurd film uses deft camerawork to portray the alienated and idiosyncratic perspectives of Livia and Emil, while unique plot twists evoke a Hitchcockian vision.
