Smash-Up / Tulsa

In the first feature, Smash-Up, Susan Hayward gives a dynamic performance (for which she received her first Oscar nomination) as Angie, a nightclub singer, beset by emotional problems which do not take control of her until her entertainer husband becomes a successful radio star. her inner conflicts drive her to seek refuge in alcohol with a frequency that eventually turns her into a full fledged alcoholic. Her constant state of drunkenness drives away her husband, who takes their child with him. It takes a near tragedy, in which the child is almost killed, to shock Angie into realizing what has happened and that she must begin to put her life back together before its too late.

The second feature has Susan Hayward portraying a tempestuous wildcat driller and Robert Preston the man who tames her as the result of a property dispute during the early days of the Oklahoma oil boom.
