Sinking A Ship
What does it take to haul a 7,000-ton vessel two miles out to sea and sink it in 130 feet of water? If anyone knows the answer, it's the MEGA MOVERS.
In this awe-inspiring program, journey to Brownsville, Texas, where former WWII attack transport ship, the Texas Clipper, is being readied for its final mission: to serve as a much-needed artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico. But placing a nearly 500-foot-long ship at a precise spot more than a hundred feet down on the bottom of the ocean presents enormous challenges. One mistake, one miscalculation, and an ecological wonder could easily become an ecological disaster. Watch as nearly a hundred workers strain to remove more than 700 tons of materials from the ship in order to maneuver it out to sea for the sinking. Along the way, learn the fascinating history behind the Texas Clipper, and hear the tales of other famous ships that were scuttled during WWII for far more desperate reasons.
Featuring expert interviews, archival footage, and incredible CGI graphics, HISTORY presents this captivating look at the mammoth task of SINKING A SHIP.
