Sometimes love is the true ambition.

At the height of her publishing career as an executive, Vivian Levinson (Carol Burnett) has her prim-and-proper world thrown into a tailspin with the unexpected arrival of her young grandson, David (Eric Lloyd). Having been abandoned by his drug-addicted mother, Ellen (Jill Teed) -- Vivian's daughter -- David hopes to move in with his grandmother. Meanwhile, Vivian's husband, Ezra Goldstine (George Segal), pushes to address the family problems that have only been met with denial.
