How one special angel earned her wings
In this poignant story, a young Portuguese girl, Monica (Genevieve Buechner), lives in Toronto with her struggling, single mother Icelia (Brigitte Bako) and her angry, unemployed uncle Albert (Maurizio Terrazzano). Monica desperately wants to be an angel in the annual summer church procession. When she learns she is to be replaced in the parade, Monica steals a pair of the ’angel wings’, only to lose them soon after on the streetcar ride home. In her attempts to recover them from Mary (Clare Coulter), a troubled homeless woman who believes she is the Virgin Mary, Monica learns something about being a real angel.
