Let Virginia show you how to incorporate cane technique and combinations into your bellydance performances to add a rich traditional element!
Raks Al Asaya, Arabic for "cane dance," originates in the Said region located in the south of Egypt. Men and women alike dance with the cane, typically at celebrations and festivals. On this DVD, Virginia combines these folkloric steps with the feminine grace and flirtatiousness of bellydance. The style of music associated with cane dance is called Saidi, Arabic for "from Said," which is also the name of the rhythm most commonly heard in saidi music. The rababa (fiddle), mizmar (wind instrument), and dholla (drum) are typical instruments in saidi music.
