Little Nell Trent lives with her doting grandfather (Jacobi) in his magical London shop filled with dust-landen treasures. Unbeknownst to Nell, Grandfather is secretly gambling every night and is deeply in debt to the evil Quilp (Jones). When Quilp seizes the Old Curiosity Shop in payment of debt, Nell and her grandfather are forced to flee London and seek refuge elsewhere, with Quilp and a mysterious stranger in hot pursuit.
