Massive Bridges
By nature, bridges are designed to move vast amounts of people and cargo on a daily basis - but what happens when a bridge itself needs to be moved?
In this exciting program from Mega Movers, discover how two bridges were moved from their original locations using two very different, but equally complex, moving methods. During this hour, local bridge preservationists in Missouri attempt to transport a 137-ton railroad bridge right through the heart of downtown Kansas City. And in Iwa, the U.S. National Guard rallies to save a 128-year-old bridge using one of the most modern mega-moving tools available today: a Chinook Helicopter. Piece by piece, these Massive Bridges were carefully dismantled, transported under difficult conditions, and just as carefully put back togther.
From the early planning stages to the settling of the bridges in their new locations, join The History Channel to learn how the Mega Movers have preserved these beloved bridges for generations to come.
