Khumbula: I Will Remember

In 2006 Jacques sat in church next to well know child evangelist Rodney Seal, who shared a real life story with him, of what happened in Europe where a group of primary school boys got into some serious trouble. What one boy told his friends, touched Jacques to his very being and send shivers down his spine. "Don't worry, my dad will come and get us." Such a simple concept but so profound. A helpless boy with the utmost confidence in his father's faithfulness, ability and commitment to him What a big idea! What a God idea! This was the inspiration for the Afrikaans version of "Khumbula - I will Remember", which translated, was titled "Tall Grass." Jacques never got around to write the script, he met up with Martin Nagel, a second year film school student. The day after his meeting with Martin they started filming ideas and the child actors, Isak Kraukamp, Bernie Kruger and Jaco Korkie, whom Jacques trained in his film acting workshops, conveyed a lot of their own creativity into the film. Jacques says that he believed God squeezed him and what came out was this profound story. These films were so well received that it inspired Jacques to film in English for the international market. Frans Cronje, a well-known Christian film maker, agreed to play the lead part of James in the English version of the film that is today Khumbula - I will Remember. (2015)
