James Joyce - So This Is Dyoublong?
This informative and entertaining program takes an in-depth look into the life and works of the Irish author James Joyce. Filmed on location in Ireland, it focuses on Joyce´s unique relationship with the city of Dublin and the inspiration it brought to him during the creation of his greatest works, including Dubliners, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses and Finnegans Wake.
James Joyce is considered one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. Born in Dublin in 1882, his youth was marked by poverty and a continual struggle to attain middle-class respectability. But despite these conditions, he received an excellent education at a succession of Jesuit schools, then went on to graduate from the University College in Dublin.
He is best known for his revolutionary innovations in the art of the novel, and for his use of complex allusions, interior monologue, and the use of invented words and puns. Initially, his books were denounced as unintelligible, nonsensical and obscene, but today they are regarded as monumental works of literature.
This illuminating program brings to life one of the twentieth century´s most influential and controversial writers.
