Facts Of Murder

Things aren't always as easy as they look. Ask Inspector Ingravallo (Pietro Germi) about it. A thief sneaks into the apartment of Roman aristocrat and steals a fortune in jewelry. But as soon as Ingravallo starts to question the neighbors he immediately has the feeling that something very fishy is indeed going on. So, what looked like an ordinary theft becomes an incredibly tangled mystery that will lead to a very unexpected outcome.

Directed by Pietro Germi (The Railroad Man), who also stars in it, this unusual noir is one of the best examples of the Italian genre films of all time. The crowd of people who gravitate around the main characters is a prelude to the comic-satirical turning Germi will give to his films in the sixties. Loosely based on Carlo Emilio Gadda's innovative novel "Bad Deal On Merulana Street", the film features Claudia Cardinale (The Leopard), Eleonora Rossi Grago (Calerio Zurlini's Violent Summer) and Franco Fabrizi, star of early Fellini masterpieces such as I Vitelloni, II Bidonel/The Swindle and Luchino Visconti's Death In Venice.
