July 22, 1934... the ambush death of Public enemy #1 John Dillinger in a barrage of FBI bullets! Or was it? It seems that J. Edgar Hoover's boys have blown away the wrong Dillinger... not John, but his brother. The "real" John Dillinger (Martin Sheen) slips away to go straight with a new life and a new family.

But "Scarface" Al Capone (F. Murray Abraham) knows all about Dillinger and his secret new identity. He wants Dillinger to pull one more heist: a bank where Capone has millions stashed away. And he's got an offer Dillinger can't refuse! Dillinger and Capone...together again!
