Deanna Durbin - Film Collection One
From the late 1930's to the mid-1940's, Deanna Durbin was one of the most popular singing stars in the world. Her Hollywood musicals were a hit with the critics and the public alike and she was adored by countless millions of fans. The world reeled when, in 1948, Deanna suddenly announced that she was to retire from film-making at the age of just 27 and her name has since passed into Hollywood legend.
Blessed with the voice of an angel, Deanna Durbin is now best remembered for her superb performances as a singer, but she was also an exceptionally gifted actress and comedienne.
The nine films included in this collection capture Deanna at the height of her career, singing many of her best-loved songs and leaving us with performances to cherish.
Films Include:

Leaving their home in Switzerland, the three young women journey to New York City and hire a washed-up count (Mischa Auer) to break up their father's engagement, wreaking plenty of wholesome havoc for all concerned.
ONE HUNDRED MEN AND A GIRL (1937): The daughter of a struggling musician, forms a symphony orchestra made up of his unemployed friends and through persistence, charm and a few misunderstandings, is able to get Leopold Stokowski to lead them in a concert that leads to a radio contract.

She spins daring adventures about her father, claiming he's not only alive but well worth the other girls' jealousy. When classmates begin to doubt Gloria's wild tales, she is forced to procure a fake father. At the local train station, she finds a dapper English composer (Herbert Marshall) who is charmed by her moxie.
THAT CERTAIN AGE (1938): Unknown to his teenage daughter, Alice (Deanna Durbin), newspaper publisher Bill Warren (John Halliday) lends his country guest house to his star reporter, Vince Bullit (Melvyn Douglas), so he can write an article in quiet surroundings. Alice, who promised the house to a troop of Boy Scouts rehearsing a musical, at first, tries to get rid of the unwanted Vince. But as she develops a crush on the older man, Alice schemes to keep him around, to the annoyance of her steady beau, Ken (Jackie Cooper).

IT STARTED WITH EVE (1941): After Johnny Reynolds Jr (Robert Cummings) arrives at the home of his very ill father, Jonathan (Charles Laughton), his father requests to meet his fiancee, Gloria (Margaret Tallichet). Unable to find her on short notice, Johnny desperately convinces a hatcheck girl and aspiring singer, Anne (Deanna Durbin), to pose as Gloria. Jonathan likes her very much and, when his condition suddenly improves, Johnny is torn. If he admits the truth, he risks upsetting his father and his fragile health.
NICE GIRL? (1941): Jane Dana (Deanna Durbin) is a cheerful teenager doing her best to survive the trials of youth. She's pursued by the eager Don Webb (Robert Stack) and the two seem well matched. Looming in the background, however, is Richard Calvert (Franchot Tone), a suave older man and a business associate of Jane's father. Unfortunately, Jane--naive and untutored in the subtleties of courtship--accidentally exposes her love triangle. The ensuing public scandal ushers her abruptly into adulthood.
HERS TO HOLD (1943): A debutante (Deanna Durbin) gets a job at a West Coast aircraft plant to be near a World War II pilot (Joseph Cotten).
