Introverted Jodie Greenwood (Jane Horrocks) lives with her domineering mother (Imelda Staunton) and her equally hen-pecked sister Beth (Brenda Fricker). Jodie has fallen for an older doctor (Jonathan Pryce), but her mother disapproves and does her best to stifle the relationship. Jodie's mom is driving her to an early grave, until one day Jodie decides that's exactly where mom belongs. Inspired on a book on legendary murderers, Jodie gets some lethal lessons from the masters of mayhem. Soon, Jack the Ripper (Sir John Mills) and his friends are appearing before her and teaching her how to take Mom out of the picture permanantly! But Jodie's new homocidal hobby leads to a host of problems... problems that can only be solved with some deadly advice.
