When the Boxer family gathers in Huntsville, Alabama, for the funeral of beloved Carmel Boxer (Gabrielle Union), they are forced to come to terms with the tumultuous past. As the soulful tribute to Carmel gets underway, the pain of her life is revealed, prompting each family member to face complex and often difficult emotions - and biases - of their own.
