Congorama
Playful plotting, cosmic coincidences, and delicate dialogue highlight this wry tale of long lost fathers, world expos, and escaping emus. When Michel, an uninspired inventor from Belgium who trades on the success of his father, discovers he is adopted, he sets off to find his birth parents in Canada under the guise of selling one of his pointless inventions. In the rural village of Saint Cecile, a kindly priest introduces Michel to Louis, a kindred spirit who drives an electric car. Louis and Michel seem to have much in common a coincidence, or not?
Canadian director Philippe Falardeau toys with chance, contrivance, and near mystical encounters in this comic drama with as many twists of fate as there are twists of plot. In addition, Congorama boasts stellar performances from an international cast, including Olivier Gourment (Cannes Film Festival, Best Actor for The Son) in the starring role and wonderful bits by veterans Jean-Pierre Cassel (Murder On The Orient Express) and Gabriel Arcand (The Decline Of The American Empire).
