A charming comedy from the producer of Ethan Hawke´s Hamlet and the breakout hit Secretary, Coney Island Baby follows the triumphs and tragedies of Billy Hayes (Karl Geary) as he gets out of jail and goes home to the small pastoral town of Coney Island, Ireland. Nearly forgotten since his long absences, Billy returns home to find his father still pounding the pavement selling bathroom accessories and his girlfriend (Laura Fraser), a mechanic, engaged... and pregnant. Dubiously claiming to be a reinvigorated man, Billy has a sharp-witted plan to whisk Bridget away to an American Dream: the promise of their very own roadside gas station. Unfortunately, her fiancé and his family do not share in the vision.
With no recourse left and smothered by his altogether too familiar routine of hawking bathroom cleansers with his dad or hanging out with low-life small-time thieves, Billy takes one final risk to realize his dream and prove himself to his beloved Bridget. But will he just fall prey to the same mistakes? The road to discovery leads him through the madness and hilarity of life in the oddly eccentric town of Coney Island in this engaging, edgy, and lyrical modern-day romance.
