Hoodlums daughter Nan Cooley (Sylvia Sidney) took a shine to the carny shooting gallery marksman they called the Kid (Gary Cooper)...and told him that his skills would be worth real money in the rackets. He was more interested in Nan than her proposition...but when shes sent to prison on a bogus murder rap, he sells out to the mob in the hopes of winning her freedom.
