Chico
Crossing international borders and luring the viewer into the midst of recent political uprisings and conflicts, Chico is a complex hybrid of biography, documentary and history that explores the political absurdities of the last 30 years.
A "Spanish-Hungarian, Catholic-Jewish communist," Chico is a child of revolution, raised on Che Guevara and the Virgin Mary. After escaping from Pinochet's Chile, Chico becomes a globe-trotting journalist-turned freedom fighter, embarking on a complex political odyssey through Hungary, Russia, Albania, Israel, and Croatia, until he ends up in the Balkan War during the 1990s. Loosely-based on the life of Eduardo Rozsa Flores, the actor who plays Chico, this film is an ambitious exploration of revolution, idealism, globalization and the absurdity of war.
With Eduardo Rozsa Flores, Gyula Bodrogi, Andras Fesos, Richie Varga, and Sergio Hernandez. Directed by Ibolya Fekete. Screenplay by Ibolya Fekete. Cinematography by Nyika Jancso, Matyas Erdely, and Antonio Farias. (2001)
