Based on a story by silent movie actress Seena Owen (Queen Kelly), Carnegie Hall follows the life of an Irish immigrant (Marsha Hunt) who arrives in America just as the grand theatre is christened, and whose life is intertwined with the performers, conductors, aspiring artists and humble employees who call it home.
A lifelong aficionado of classical music, director Edgar G. Ulmer (Detour, The Black Cat) captured the musical sequences with great care and at considerable length, making Carnegie Hall not only an engrossing drama but a definitive visual record of the performance techniques of Artur Rubenstein, Jascha Heifetz, Leopold Stokowski, Lily Pons and many other unforgettable artists.
