If Bones could speak...
The world is full of mysteries and some of the most intriguing are locked in the earth’s embrace, the secrets of buried bones! Long buried and all but forgotten, bones hold the key to the truth about an individual’s identity, lifestyle, and even cause of death!
From a hidden crypt of bones in a 19th century music hall, to the remains of five Colorado miners who may have been victims of murder and cannibalism, Dr. Elizabeth Murray and her team of experts in the fields of history, archeology, anthropology and forensic science take you on an amazing journey of discovery.
BURIED SECRETS is a captivating 4-hour series where intuition, dogged research and advanced anthropological forensic science take a fresh look at old bones in order to solve the mysteries of life and death.
The Hardin Cemetery:
The Great Midwestern Flood of 1993 inundated the small town of Hardin, Missouri. The floodwaters unearthed hundreds of headstones, vaults and caskets, sending them through streets and fields. Dr. Murray and her crew explore the massive effort to recover, identify and return the remains to their rightful resting ground.
Infamous Colorado Cannibal:
When Alfred Packer arrived at the Indian Agency in the spring of 1874 after 65 days in the treacherous snows of the Rocky Mountains, he was starving and bedraggled, telling an extraordinary tale of survival. But what became of his five companions? Was he a ’murdering cannibal’? Forensic scientists look at the remains of the five miners, hoping their bones will reveal the truth of how these men died.
Mass Graves Of Guatemala:
For nearly 36 years, Guatemala was a country ripped apart by brutal civil war between the military government and the rural Mayan people. Mass grave sites littered the countryside. After peace returned to Guatemala in 1996, an international effort to identify the dead, and assure them a proper Mayan burial brought teams of forensic anthropologists to assist in this important work.
Music Hall Bones:
From as early as 1876, there were rumors of ghosts inhabiting the building that now houses the Cincinnati Symphony, so when a night watchman reported his sightings nearly 100 years later, many thought he was just adding to lore. But in 1988, when construction workers were working in one of the elevator shafts, they uncovered pounds and pounds of bones in an underground crypt. Dr. Elizabeth Murray was eventually entrusted with the bones and set about to solve the mystery; how did these bones end up where they did and who might these individuals be?
