In one of young Robert De Niro's (The Good Shepherd, Meet The Parents) first major roles, he plays baseball player Bruce Pearson - a dim-witted but big-hearted catcher diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease. Michael Moriarty (Pale Rider) plays star pitcher Henry Wiggne, Bruce's best friend and roommate. As they attempt to get Bruce through his final season, they keep the condition a secret from the team. With humor and heart, the teammates exhibit the fierce loyalty that makes them friends... and the undying courage that makes them champions.
