1993 NCAA Division I Men´s Basketball Championship - North Carolina Vs. Michigan
1993 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship North Carolina vs. Michigan April 5, 1993 - New Orleans, Louisiana Now sophomores, Michigan's "Fab Five," with last season's final game loss to Duke painfully fresh in their memory, burst from the locker room declaring to do nothing else but win this one. It appeared the Wolverines' had a controlled lead of 67 - 63 with 4:32 remaining; but that was to change in one of the most exhilarating and peculiar finishes in tournament history. The pulse of the game changed entirely after a 3-pointer by North Carolina's Donald Williams, a missed shot by Michigan's Jalen Rose, and then Derrick's Phelps' lay-up putting the Tar Heels in the lead. Shocked and confused by the turnaround and the noise of the screaming crowd, Michigan's Webber attempts to call a time out in the remaining 11 seconds of the game. However, Michigan had no time outs left, resulting in a technical foul. Donald Williams, named Most Outstanding Player, makes both shots for the Tar Heels from the line and Carolina also gains possession. Williams is fouled, and sinks the next two, clinching the win for Carolina.
